Shum (Noise)
The noise rustles and whispers, a noisy surge,
The din sweeps in like a flood in spring,
And every leaf upon the oak is full of sound.
The chumak lifts the cap from off his head.
A sudden whirlwind dashed and darted through,
Like a heavy whip, it swings its wealth into the May,
Scattering everything around to the very edge,
Until a shiver runs down the peopleโs spines.
The tavern cracks and screeches like a jaw,
And the hazel trees stand bristling with their boughs.
It is the wind a-wandering, the noise’s closest kin,
Knocking its finger against the skyโs own dwellings.
This is the Shumโnatureโs inspired music
At the loud wedding of death and of life.
