The din sweeps in like a flood in spring,
And every leaf upon the oak is full of sound.

A sudden whirlwind dashed and darted through,
Like a heavy whip, it swings its wealth into the May,
Scattering everything around to the very edge,
Until a shiver runs down the people’s spines.

The tavern cracks and screeches like a jaw,
And the hazel trees stand bristling with their boughs.
It is the wind a-wandering, the noise’s closest kin,

Knocking its finger against the sky’s own dwellings.
This is the Shum—nature’s inspired music
At the loud wedding of death and of life.
